KEEN Harvest is an ongoing SMU collection derived from the salvation of various materials to be up-cycled into a renewed KEEN accessory product. This SS18/SS19 line consists of twice recycled denim coffee bags from Nossa Familia Coffee, a local brewer with farms in Guatemala & Nicaragua.

Nossa’s farms take denim scraps from local jean manfucaturers and shred them to a state they can be re-woven into strong textiles to hold pounds and pounds of their South American coffee beans. In an effort to mitigate industry waste, KEEN has taken in the ~2,000 coffee bags in waste to produce a collection of everyday accessories.

In collaboration with one other KEEN designer, we created a collection of zippered travel cases, snap pouches, and totes with a soft cotton twill liner, locally sourced Horween leather accents, and brass hardware details to deliver an elevated heritage aesthetic.

Watch our journey to repurpose textile waste by collaborating with local and international partners. We worked with Nossa Familia Coffee in Portland, Oregon, to find a better way to source the material for our latest collection of bags.
